Hey there, I'm Katelyn! I'm a recent Texas Tech graduate making my way in the "real world"! I currently work in marketing and love my job, I'm loving that I have been able to return to my home in brushy south Texas. In my spare time, I enjoy saltwater fishing, acroyoga, Tuesday night kickboxing and of course a movie day on the couch with my dogs here and there.
I first fell in love with Make-A-Wish when my high school National Honor Society decided to grant a wish through a local WishGranter. The wish ultimately did not meet its financial goal, and being as competitive as I am compassionate, I knew I wanted to do more and succeed. As that fall rolled around and I started school at Texas Tech University, I joined Chi Omega and was able to wholeheartedly invest myself in Make-A-Wish. Becoming a WishGranter, helping my friends throw Wish Reveal parties, fundraising alongside all of my sisters with events, bake sales and everything in between.. it's no wonder I asked myself how I would remain as involved and passionate following my graduation to come! My favorite Chi Omega memories were made at Make-A-Wish events!
When I thought Make-A-Wish could not captivate my heart any more than it already had, it effected me far more personally as a cousin of mine was granted a Wish three summers ago. To see more than just the family's reaction to the WishGranter; to have seen the ups and downs that come with being an immediate and extended family prior, the laughing that came with frustration or fear, and the overwhelming sense of love that carried my cousin and her family through it, and finally the real REAL effect the Wish had on every one of us who know and love them. Seeing this and seeing each of them light up as they recount the wish sealed the deal for me... I couldn't leave behind my Make-A-Wish days when I left school!
I hope to join a local Make-A-Wish chapter in the near future, but for now I just want to do my part and help grant a wish!
What I'm Doing
I am raising funds and awareness for Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas by joining 200 people on June 9th & 10th, 2018, to go Over The Edge - literally! Over The Edge challenges you to face your fears, catch your breath, step up to the edge and rappel from the 32nd story of 600 Congress in the heart of downtown. The first 200 fundraisers to raise a minimum of $1,500 will earn a spot to go Over The Edge.
More than 550 children in central and south Texas are diagnosed each year with a critical medical condition. Last year, Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas granted 283 wishes for local children. You can help Make-A-Wish® reach more of these children and create hope, strength and joy in their lives. Money raised by rappellers goes towards granting these wishes.
You can also rappel with me by signing up to go Over The Edge too! Click here to register.
I hope you can help me reach my goal and help make a difference in the lives of children who need it most!
